How does Nutrimost work?

Nutrimost claims to work by advising you of particular foods that support your body alongside provided specialised supplements. However, we cannot find any evidence to  support these claims. People lose weight when following the Nutrimost plan simply because they are restricted to an extremely low calorie intake for a long period of time.

Who should use Nutrimost?

Nutrimost should only be used by people who have a lot of money to spend and need a  mentor to help them through a starvation style diet to lose substantial amounts of weight.  

How much does Nutrimost cost?

The initial online consultation costs $27.00. After the consultation, if you agree to sign up to the plan, it’s priced between $1500 to $2000 for a 40 day cycle.

Is Nutrimost paleo/keto friendly?

You can choose from a list of proteins, vegetables and fruits every day when creating your meals. This would likely suit the paleo plan, but it will not suit the low carb keto diet.

Does Nutrimost offer a vegetarian/vegan option?

You could forgo the animal protein choices listed in the guide if you wanted to follow a vegetarian diet, however you would likely be extremely limited to eating the same proteins every day. There was no mention of a vegan option that we could find.

Does Nutrimost cater to food allergies and intolerances?

You do your own shopping according to the food list so you can avoid allergens yourself.

Is Nutrimost a fad?

Nutrimost is very expensive and could almost be constituted as a form of starvation diet for weight loss.

Is Nutrimost safe?

Very low calorie diets should be recommended, managed and supervised by a medical doctor, as a solution to an extreme circumstance. Therefore, voluntarily limiting calorie intake to around 500 calories per day for 40 days is highly unlikely to be healthy. Very low calorie diets can also cause gallstones, muscle loss and have caused deaths. (26,27)

Does Nutrimost really work?

You are very likely to lose weight on this plan in the beginning, due to the extreme calorie restriction. However, not only is this plan very difficult to sustain for a length of time, it could force your body into a ‘starvation mode’. This lowers the metabolism and encourages the body to hold onto body fat as a survival mechanism.

How long does it take to see results using Nutrimost?

You will likely experience a rapid drop in weight to begin with, but this weight loss is highly unlikely to be sustainable and may damage your ability to lose weight in the future.

Are there any Nutrimost alternatives?

Yes, there are other, healthier alternatives to weight loss which also cost a lot less. ‘Optifast’ and ‘Medifast’ are both low calorie plans which support fast weight loss, but without the expense and extremity of Nutrimost.

Rapid Weight Loss

Nutrimost claims its followers will lose between 20 and 40 pounds by the end of the 40 days.

This is an attractive prospect for those who have a special event they would like to slim down for. Other reasons could point towards health problems that will be relieved or reduced by substantial weight loss.

They claim the program enforces the body to enter a ‘fat burning zone’ whereby it will stay for the entire duration of the 40 days.

We lose weight when we consume fewer calories than we expend through being alive and any movement or exertion we take during the day. Once our body has exhausted its supply of calorific energy, it generally turns to body fat stores for fuel. (1)

Of course, every one of us has a different rate at which we burn calories, it’s known as our ‘metabolism’. This can be influenced by our age, genetics, body composition, fitness, health and gender. (2)

Nutrimost is centered around an extremely low calorie plan. However, the concept also  combines individualised supplements to plug the gaps in nutrition.

Personalised Dedicated Plan

Many people can struggle to lose weight if they do not have structure and direction.

Studies have found, people who feel they have close support network tend to lose more weight than those who go it alone. (3)

Nutrimost supplies a dedicated coach with whom you must text your weight to every morning and who is also available for any questions which might arise.

They also perform a ‘scan’ of your body using a device which allegedly undertakes a check of 1500 ‘biomarkers’. This is then used to determine which foods you should avoid eating.

This notion makes the plan feel very personalized and supported which may be encouraging for some people.

Those who sign up to Nutrimost can expect to receive the following:

Dedicated Coach

All followers of the plan have access to a dedicated coach with whom they keep informed of their weight. The coach is also there to ask any questions throughout the plan duration.

Plan Manual and Journal

Everyone will receive a Nutrimost journal and a manual which helps followers navigate the plan and also enables them to keep a track of their progress.

Nutrimost Scanner

Those who cannot make it to a Nutrimost center will receive a scanner in the mail which must be used and returned to Nutrimost after use.

This scanner is shaped like a metal glove and must be attached to your computer to perform the scan. The results are sent to Nutrimost and analysed to determine what foods you should avoid during the 40 days.

No blood, urine or allergy tests are required. Just the use of this scanning glove.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t find any solid information as to how this scanner actually works, therefore we cannot confirm its effectiveness.

Meal Plans

Nutrimost provides a list of proteins, vegetables and fruits you can choose from throughout your plan.

Followers must skip breakfast and then eat one protein source with vegetables and fruit for every meal.

The calorie count for the day should be around 500 calories, which is extremely low and will surely result in weight loss, at least in the beginning. However, drastically cutting back on the calories can be a shock to the system and could trigger ‘starvation mode’.

This is a survival mechanism which lowers the metabolism to conserve calories and encourages the retention of body fat. This scenario can jeopardize your long term weight loss and maintenance goals.  

Supplements

Nutrimost supplies a variety of supplements as standard, including others if they deem them necessary for the individual. For example, if they have diabetes, thyroid, liver or kidney issues.

However, everyone will receive the ‘weight loss formula’. This includes a dropper bottle with individual dosage instructions written on the label.

It’s stated, all liquid supplements must be tapped on the base with heel of the hand 8-10 times before they are taken.

We are told this is to ‘activate’ and ‘wake up’ the frequencies of the formulas within.

Users are then directed to drop this formula under the tongue and hold it there for two minutes before swallowing. They must also not eat for 15 mins prior and after use.

However, we were unable to find any information as to what is included in this ‘weight loss formula’, or anything relating to the other supplements.

Therefore, Nutrimost does lack transparency or explanation as to what this formula does, or indeed any scientific reason as to why you must hold it under the tongue for two minutes.

To give you an idea of some of the approved meals, we have put together a sample menu for you below. Remember, the serving sizes will be small, due to the 500 calories per day limit.

Haddock with green beans and kale, followed by an orange

Scallops with asparagus, followed by some strawberries

Chicken with broccoli and bell pepper, followed by some blueberries

Buffalo with onions and tomatoes, followed by a peach

Special Requirements

The recommended food list doesn’t contain any gluten, nut or dairy foods which means this shouldn’t be a problem.

Nutrimost Ingredients

When planning your meals, Nutrimost provides a list of proteins, vegetables and fruits which you can choose from.

The ingredient list is too extensive for us to examine in its entirety here. Therefore, we will take a look at the nutritional value of those ingredients used in the sample menu  above:

Haddock

This fish is one of the protein choices listed on the approved foods list.

It is very high in lean protein, low in fats and packed with vitamins and minerals such as vitamin B, vitamin D, magnesium, sodium and potassium.

It also contains omega-3 fatty acids which are essential for heart and brain health. (4,5)

Green beans

Green beans are rich in antioxidants which play a key role in defending us from the damaging effects of ‘free radicals’. These are molecules which scavenge oxygen atoms from our cells, causing diseases such as cancer.

Because of their antioxidant content, green beans are believed to have anticarcinogenic (anti-cancer) properties. (6)

Furthermore, green beans contain substances known as peptides, which have been shown to slow down the development of cancer cells. (7)

Kale

Kale is a green leafy vegetable which is considered by many to be a ‘superfood’.

It has potent anti-inflammatory qualities, as well as being rich in protective antioxidants.

Alongside these, kale also includes high quantities of vitamin K and vitamin E.

Kale is able to lower cholesterol and keep the heart healthy. (8)

Orange

Oranges are a very popular, sweet citrus fruit often found in the fruit bowl.

They are relatively low in calories, at about 60 calories for a standard size.

Oranges, like other citrus fruits are packed full of vitamin C, and one medium sized orange contains around 95% of your daily recommended intake.

Furthermore, oranges are rich in vitamin B, folate, potassium and plant based protective compounds such as flavonoids and polyphenols.

These compounds have strong antioxidant benefits, helping to fight disease and support overall health. (9)

Asparagus

Asparagus is a rich source of vitamin K which is essential for healthy and efficient clotting of the blood and healthy bones density. (10)

This flavorsome shoot is low in calories and can act as a food supply for digestive bacteria. It contains a form of indigestible dietary fiber called ‘inulin’, which ferments in the gut and nourishes the bacteria present. (11)

Having a healthy, balanced colony of ‘good’ or ‘friendly’ bacteria is extremely important to our overall health. (12)

Strawberries

These bright red fruits are a powerhouse of nutrition. Strawberries are full to the brim with nutrients of anti-inflammatory, anti-ageing and health boosting properties.

In fact, scientific research found a link between strawberries and cancer prevention. (13)

Blueberries

Blueberries are another fruit hailed as a superfood due to the concentration of antioxidants and nutrients it contains. It is one of the most nutrient dense fruits known to man.

These slightly sour berries come complete with a long list of vitamins and minerals such as: vitamin C, copper, vitamin K, potassium and manganese, among others.

Blueberry consumption is beneficial in the prevention of ‘atherosclerosis’. This is a condition which causes plaque to build up within the artery walls, causing heart attacks and strokes. (14)

Buffalo Steak

Buffalo, or bison steak is a much healthier choice over your standard beef steak.

It contains high levels of quality protein with fewer calories and is also lower in saturated fat.

It’s a good source of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). This is commonly taken in supplement form by those who are looking to lose body fat whilst preserving and building lean muscle mass. (15)

Buffalo is also packed with selenium, a mineral that defends against premature ageing and protects us from the cell damaging effects of free radicals. (16)

Tomatoes

The redder the tomato, the better for your health it is. This is due to the amount of ‘lycopene’ (the health boosting ‘carotenoid’)  it contains. (17,18,19,20)

Scientific studies have shown taking lycopene can effectively balance blood cholesterol and diminish the potential for troublesome blood clotting. (21,22,23)

Scallops

Scallops are a very low fat, low calorie and low cholesterol shellfish that provides a good dose of protein per serving.

Scallops also supply a wealth of vitamins and minerals, as well as omega-3 fatty acids which are essential for a healthy heart and cognitive function. (24,25)

Side Effects

Side effects of extremely low calorie intake includes hunger, dizziness, malnutrition, muscle loss, headaches, fatigue and body aches.

Summary

Nutrimost is an extremely low calorie diet which uses an effective form of starvation to encourage rapid weight loss.

The individualised supplements and ‘body scan’ aspects of the plan are obscure and lack any obvious scientific evidence to support them.

The supply of a dedicated coach is a positive element, but not enough to justify the methods or price involved in this programme.

It is our opinion that Nutrimost is a very expensive and unhealthy way to lose weight, in a potentially dangerous and certainly unsustainable manner. Nutrimost promotes weight loss that is far beyond the recommended safe and healthy rate of 1 to 2 pounds per week.
